Brian is delighted to be taking part the ‘Inspiring Hope Through Nature’ online art auction. This is to help raise funds for GROW a youth development charity that works with vulnerable people in Sheffield.

WHAT DO GROW DO?

Many of the young people that GROW work with face mental health difficulties that have resulted in social isolation and a lack of engagement in work or training prospects,  Covid-19 has further accentuated this. GROW runs youth development programmes that combine coaching with nature based projects. Their aim is to build confidence, promote wellbeing and develop employability in the people who attend. The following short film gives an overview of all that GROW did in 2020: https://YouTube/0LvcBzKKWuQ

HOW WILL THE ONLINE AUCTION WORK?

The online art auction will be open for bids from the 1st February until 10pm on Valentine’s Day 14th February 2021. Brian is contributing ten original paintings from his latest Discarded Dreams series. For each painting sold, 50% of the profit will go to help GROW reach out and support more young people.

Update 25th February 2021 – A huge thank you to everyone that supported the online auction. Seven of Brian’s paintings from the Discarded Dreams series were sold, raising much needed funds for the fantastic GROW charity.

WHAT IS BRIAN’S ‘DISCARDED DREAMS’ SERIES?

Through the Discarded Dreams series Brian explores the idea of re-imagining dreams of landscape that seem to be common to us all. He scavenged local charity and thrift shops for second-hand frames that contained images of landscapes that had clearly once adorned people’s walls or shelves, pictures that presumably meant something to them and that they had valued. Now discarded, Brian decided to breathe new life into these frames by creating images of mainly woodland landscape in paint on board, influenced by the original motifs they once contained but featuring ‘stills’ from dreams he still has: derived from memories of personal experiences in landscape or memorable photographs or even scenes from films that never seem to fade. Colour and texture from the painted images on board spilled out onto the wooden frames in a gesture to integrate and embrace them.
